To mark the end of 2011/2012, the approach of 2012/2013 and the 40th anniversary of the National Student Television Awards in the UK, the National Student Television Association is pleased to announce the creation of the NaSTA ‘Honorary Patronage’.
NaSTA has always enjoyed the unique affection of individuals taken from their involvement with a student television station whilst studying at University. For those individuals who later move directly into a career in the media industries, this affection often translates into offers spanning help and advice for NaSTA and its members, through to providing material for the NaSTA awards themselves. The NaSTA ‘Honorary Patronage’ is designed to celebrate and recognise the support & contribution given to student television by these members of the industry & whose involvement has had a direct positive impact on NaSTA and its members.
In recognition of their to NaSTA & the work of student television across the UK, the 2011/2012 NaSTA honourary patrons are:
Shoshana Wilson:
From being a former member of Nexus UTV, the student television at the University of East Anglia (UEA) to now being the Acquisitions and Commissioning Manager at Comedy Central (London) Shoshana has always been a mainstay of support for NaSTA and her involvement & active contribution with the NaSTA awards over the last several years has proven to be invaluable.
“Shoshana has never been shy of going that extra step when NaSTA has asked her for help or advice over the last few years. Now enjoying a successful career within the industry, her continued support of NaSTA comes from her affinity with student television that she’s had since her time as a student with Nexus.
I think it’s safe to say that NaSTA & student television has a good friend in Shoshana Wilson.”
- Matt Capon (NaSTA Marketing & Comms Officer 2011/2012)
Ore Oduba
Ore has gone from winning the 2008 NaSTA on-screen Best Male, to 4 years later now being the presenter of Newsround & Match Of The Day Kickabout on CBBC. But throughout all of this, his support and affection for NaSTA & student television remains unparalleled. With a schedule that has seen him over recent years interview the likes of David Beckham and Jenson Button, to visiting British troops in Afghanistan and covering the World Cup in South Africa and the Youth Olympics in Singapore, Ore till finds time to get involved with the work of NaSTA & student television.
“Ores enthusiasm for the work of NaSTA & student television is infectious. Despite his success within the industry, he’s managed to remain humble about the role student television has played in his career & he is always willing to offer any support and advice to those looking to enter into a career in television. I think that speaks volumes about him as a person.”
- Matt Capon (NaSTA Marketing & Comms Officer 2011/2012)
Tim Marshall
Tim Marshall is Chief Executive Officer of JANET(UK) and in recent years has become one of NaSTA’s biggest supporters. His support and belief in the work of student television & the ability of NaSTA to develop its potential has helped the NaSTA/JANET live streaming project move from being a pipe dream, to a reality.
“Tim Marshall has always been a great believer in student TV, appreciating the time and effort put in by all those who are involved. He has provided us so much, helping to push the boundaries of student TV by providing access to new technologies and encouraging students to reach their full potential [...] Tim Marshall is always willing to listen, but he is also always wanting to talk about NaSTA, I remember my first NaSTA in 2009 when Tim gave one of the most uplifting speeches about student TV I have ever heard. He is a very busy person, but he always finds time for students, that’s how great Tim is”
- Stuart Wood (NaSTA Technical Officer 2011/2012)
There will be more announcements regarding the 40th anniversary celebration of the National Student Television Awards over the coming year.
