Student TV and the Olympics

As I write this, the Olympics Opening Ceremony coverage is underway on the BBC and already anticipation is setting in ahead of what is going to be an amazing month, especially for a sport/television enthusiast like myself.

But thanks to the various volunteering schemes and other opportunities created by the huge project that is hosting London 2012, I know plenty of students who are getting involved in the coverage. Whether helping out with live broadcasts or assisting at any of the hundreds of events going on, Britain hosting these games has offered a fantastic chance to students wanting to get involved in the media.

Student stations have had the chance to take a ride on the media truck at torch relays all across the country, and many have already released their videos. I’ll be looking to collate all of these videos once they have been released and ensure these historic moments are recorded in NaSTA history, as it truly is a once in a generation event.

Just as the BBC is pushing their own bar up to a new level, I am sure many station’s are also looking to produce high quality content over the month. There is a good chance that coverage of the torch relay is only the start of some station’s olympics coverage, and that’s where I’m going to ask you, NaSTA, to really shout about your work. No matter what sort of footage – previews, reviews, updates, live, documentaries, news, interviews, comedies  - if you’ve been working to produce any Olympics programming, I’d love to hear about it and help you push it out to a wider audience.

And I would also like to hear from any individuals from student television who are making the most of these games to gain invaluable broadcast and events experience. If you or someone you know is helping out at London 2012, it’d be great if you could drop me a line. Perhaps you might also like to indicate what sort of things you’re doing, giving us a glimpse into your roles during the games.

So if you’d like to get in touch about your Olympics footage, or individual experiences at these games, then don’t think twice. You can e-mail me at marketing@nasta.tv or find me on twitter @NaSTA_Marketing.

And come on Team GB.
