Hi everyone, I’m Maddy the NaSTA Host Officer for the NaSTA Conference and Awards 2017! I am a third year English Literature student and avid member of Guild TV at the University of Birmingham. Through joining Guild TV in second year, I have made amazing friends and content that I’m really proud of so I’m incredibly happy that we have been chosen to host what will be the biggest celebration of student television all year. We thought it would be the perfect time to host because it is Guild TV’s 50th anniversary and we all had such an awesome time last year with winning the Special Recognition award. I hope you can all make the awards, planning is well underway and I promise it will be a weekend to remember.

Awards

The awards ceremony itself will take place in our Great Hall which has previously hosted the Antiques Roadshow and holds all of the University of Birmingham’s graduation ceremonies. All the awards categories will be judged by industry professionals and the ceremony will begin after we have all had a delicious three-course meal.

Accommodation

Our university does not have any student accommodation free for over the Easter holiday therefore we will be following the suit of the previous NaSTA Conference and will be using local hotels. Delegates will be staying in hotels in central Birmingham as they have been shown to provide the best value price.

Travel

As many will know, Birmingham is a massive city in the middle of England with fantastic transport links. We have the brand new Grand Central station, Birmingham International airport and Birmingham Coach station. The University of Birmingham is campus-based but you will easily be able to get there from the hotel either by train to University station or by taxi.
