Radio 1′s Greg James talks to Zai about his ideas on television, his vision for BBC Three and how he made his way from the post room at Carlton Television to Controller at one of the most formidable broadcasters in the world.

If you submit a pitch in advance of the session, you may be chosen to pitch your idea to Zai in a one minute elevator pitch on the night. It’s a rare chance to sell your own idea direct to the Controller.

Brief for your pitch: your idea must be for one of the following two slots:

a) non-narrative comedy (eg panel/ game/ hidden camera/ clips show) for the 10.30pm slot
b) factual entertainment (formats/ series/ one-offs) for 9pm slot

How to Book
This event is open to all RTS Futures members but is designed for those with no more than two years’ television experience. The cost is £10.00. To book a place you (and any guest/s you book a place for) MUST be a member of RTS Futures. If you are an existing member please ring the RTS Events Department on 020 7822 2820 with your Credit/Debit Card ready or email events@rts.org.uk providing your name, postal address, email address and phone number (we will then contact you to request credit card details), otherwise please register as a member at www.rtsfutures.org.uk before attempting to book.

Tickets for the 2012 National Student Television Awards are on sale now for only £50! Make sure you buy them soon as the Early Bird discount ends on 6^th February! If we have not sold out after this time tickets will increase by £10, this is due to early booking discounts we have secured from our suppliers. Its the biggest night of the year for student television so get your student loan and get on it!

Accommodation is also available for only £30 per nights and includes breakfast.

Once you have submitted your details, check the email you registered with, locate the registration email and click the validation link.

Once your account is validated you can continue to Step 2 to purchase tickets.

Read the information and scroll to the bottom:

If not already logged in, log in by selecting ‘Login’ from either the top or bottom of the page. Login as an ‘Associate Member’ by entering the email address you registered with in the ‘Username’ field and enter the password you created during registration.

After logging in, if your browser defaults to the Student Union homepage, click the link above again.

There are 3 Conference & Awards 2012 tickets available:

a)     Conference Entrance only – (no accommodation will be provided)

b)     Conference & Saturday Accommodation provided

c)     Conference with Friday & Saturday Accommodation provided

(You can also buy affiliation if you are a Station Manager or Treasurer and your station has not yet done so – individual members do not need to purchase affiliation, the station must purchase affiliation on your behalf)

Today sees the launch of a hopefully very useful tool for all NaSTA stations, the NaSTA Knowledge Base which is a NaSTA run wiki which will provide a platform for every member of NaSTA to have a chance to share their knowledge. It will provide help for old stations as well as new ones, providing advice on specific areas of student TV production.

This is something which has been asked for by a number of members, now make the most out of it and get editing. If you have never edited a wiki before then do not be scared, it is rather simple, see the help pages on the wiki.

The more people who contribute to this project the better, I have made a start creating some basic structure and content, but there is lots to write about!

Any pages with a red url need to be created, feel free to do so and feel free to add to the information that is already there.

Since its christmas we at NaSTA thought you all deserved a little present. So for the final day of our advent calendar we have chosen to announce when tickets will go on sale for the 2012 Awards.

Its Christmas Eve Eve and the team at NUTS have made a special video version of Roald Dahl’s Cinderella. Don’t forget to check back tomorrow at midday for a special announcement regarding this year’s awards tickets.

We are very pleased to announce following the EGM that 90% of attending NaSTA stations welcome the rule change. However, as the EGM took place at a very busy time of year and the constitution has very demanding rules on quorum the EGM was inquorate.. Therefore, the NaSTA Exec, as part of the ongoing constitutional review, and the team at NUTS have agreed to trial the new rules this coming April before a full vote of NaSTA stations at this year’s AGM. Watch out for the ticket sale announcement tomorrow to ensure you get the chance to attend the Conference & Awards 2012 hosted in Nottingham!
