The Future of Alumni

The Future of Alumni

In April 2015 NaSTA affiliates voted in favour of the following motion: the creation of the NaSTA alumni association as its own entity. The Association resolved to create a steering group who would create PaSTA as an organisation in its own right.

Over the last several months we looked into this, and prepared a three year plan detailing the steps we would take to create and maintain the existence of such an organisation.

An outline of the first year’s plans can be read below:

1) Removal of the alumni officer as a non-executive position within NaSTA, the role and responsibilities of the alumni officer will pass over to the new alumni association.

2) Between now and April 2017, we essentially have a year long ‘trial run’ – much as the Exec did when it was created in 2009 – and then we will implement permanent change at NaSTA’s AGM next year. Work on this will begin immediately.

3) PaSTA will then be rebranded and relaunched as a separate organisation in 2017 following the AGM. The rebranded PaSTA will be overseen by a Board of Trustees made up of NaSTA Alumni from a range of backgrounds. This Board will organise networking, and social events across the regions, liaise with the NaSTA Exec on matters including but not limited to: the Awards and Conference weekend, shadowing, work experience, mentoring schemes, and oversee alumni interconnectivity and involvement with NaSTA members. During the trial run the Board of Trustees will be made up of existing members of the steering group.

4) Additional Trustees will be appointed by existing board members via an application process detailed below.

This proposal was passed unanimously by the NaSTA affiliates at the 2016 AGM, and work has begun on providing NaSTA alumni with a proper and effective network to provide career development, networking opportunities, and social events. In the coming months a newsletter will be created, with regular updates on our progress, and the steering group will be in touch with NaSTA TV stations, regional officers, and the NaSTA Exec to discuss how we can work best with them.

If you are interested in finding out more about this next step in student television, or you would like to be included on the newsletter mailing list, please email [email protected]

We are always keen to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a Trustee. If you have the time and are willing to take an active role in helping to run the Student Television Alumni Network send a one pager, explaining why you would be suitable, and what you can bring to the team to [email protected]
